Breaking the cycle of poverty
For the past 20 years, we have been working to break the cycle of poverty and child malnutrition by providing tools that improve the quality of life of children and families living in contexts of social vulnerability and isolation.
The reality faced by the families we support is extremely challenging: 44.2% experience severe food insecurity, a critical situation that directly impacts children’s nutrition and development. Malnutrition in the early years of life, combined with a lack of stimulation, affects both growth and learning. This often leads to poor school performance and dropout. Without education, young people face a future with limited job opportunities, often in precarious and low-paying positions, which in turn leads to the formation of new households with unmet basic needs. And so, the cycle begins again.
That is why, at Haciendo Camino, we know that early intervention is key: reaching children in their first years of life creates a deep and lasting impact. Every day, we support families so they can build a different future, with more opportunities for their children.
Our Story and Present
In 2006, after a volunteer trip to Añatuya, Santiago del Estero, Catalina Hornos founded Haciendo Camino with the aim of accompany children and families in vulnerable situations. Since then, the organization has grown steadily, and today we operate 14 Child Development and Family Strengthening Centers across Santiago del Estero, Chaco, and Salta, having supported more than 21,800 families in northern Argentina.
Through our programs, we:
- Promote early childhood development
- Support pregnant women
- Train women in vocational skills
- Ensure access to healthcare
- Provide support to families in critical situations
We also reach the most remote areas, working in over 26 isolated communities and rural settlements.
Every day, we strive for a country where all children have the same opportunities to grow and develop, regardless of where they are born. Our work is made possible thanks to the commitment of a strong network of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and supporters who help sustain each of our initiatives.
Your commitment makes a difference: become a monthly sponsor and help us break the cycle of poverty.
